Confidence in the piglet market has been severely shaken by the outbreak of African swine fever in Germany.
It has been a few days since the outbreak, but the market has not yet come to its senses. For example, will there be a second reduction in the German pig price, and how will Dutch slaughterhouses report? It has become clear that German pork has (largely) been denied access to the Asian sales market, although this was as expected.
Couples cancelled
The enthusiasm in Germany to put piglets on piglets has dropped considerably. This period of the year is always a weak period due to harvest issues on the mixed farms, and this unrest has now been added to that. Traders indicate that large piglet flocks are being ordered from Germany and other countries. This also affects the Dutch market, although sales in our own country are not necessarily plagued by cancellations. Because more than 100.000 piglets cross the border every week, the supply naturally increases.
Opinions differ widely about the direction of the DCA BestPigletPrice. The majority of traders at DCA Markets are in favor of issuing a quotation and also definitively, in contrast to the provisional change in the DCA Stock Exchange price for this week. Based on the statements and discussions with the advisory committee, the BPP decreases by €4,50 to €26 per piglet.
