5 more wild boars with ASF found in Germany

15 September 2020 - Chanti Oussoren

There is no longer a single African swine fever (ASF) infection among wild boars in Germany. 5 extra infections have now been detected, the Pigprogress website reports.

Today it has been confirmed by the state of Brandenburg that 5 more wild boars have been found with ASF. All cases were found in the municipality of Neuzelle, located in Oder-Spree. Of the 5 animals, 4 pigs were found dead and the other pig was shot, the website reports.

Neuzelle is about 4 kilometers from the border with Poland and about 7,5 kilometers north of where the first infected carcass was found. Samples will be sent to the German national reference laboratory of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) where the outbreaks are to be formally confirmed.
