Vion is also allowed to export to China again

17 September 2020 - Chanti Oussoren

It took a while, after Westfort and Van Rooi Meat, Vion has now also regained its recognition for exporting to China.

Since the end of June, a export stop for pork to China from various Dutch slaughterhouses. Earlier Westfort got his recognition back and at the end of August was also allowed Van Rooi Meat is exporting pork to China again. Vion also received a message today and the locations in Groenlo and Boxtel are allowed to export to China again from today.

Of course, Vion is pleased that it has regained its recognition. John de Jonge, COO Vion Pork states that the export share to Asia of the total sales volume of Vion is substantial and that a large part of this is destined for China.

Recognition comes when called
Given the current situation in Germany with regard to African swine fever (ASF), regaining China recognition is urgent. Now that Germany is no longer allowed to export pork to China, the domestic supply there will increase sharply. As a result, the Dutch export opportunities to Germany are diminishing.

The fact that Vion is now allowed to export to China again is therefore a great relief and that is good for Dutch pig sales. de Jonge says the following about this: "Also in relation to the situation on the German market, where ASF leads to great uncertainty and the sale of pigs ready for slaughter is under pressure. A worldwide complementary sales portfolio is essential."
