Meat company Danish Crown has acquired an existing production location in the German municipality of Essen. It concerns a former location of Fleish-Krone-Feinkost that the Danish meat processor will start using on 1 October.
With the purchase, Danish Crown will become the owner of a 22.600 square meter building. The 220 employees of Fleish-Krone-Feinkost will initially take over all of the Danish processor. The acquisition opens up the opportunity for Danish Crown to further expand its production capacity in Essen.
Production Relocation
Until recently, the production location was integrated into the meat giant's slaughterhouse in Essen, which has been owned since 2010. The slaughterhouse had been struggling with a shortage of space for some time, the processor said. When the opportunity arose to take over this production location from Fleish-Krone-Fleinkost, the choice was therefore made.
Preben Sunke, director of operations at Danish Crown, says he is happy to keep the 220 employees. "We can put these skilled employees with food production and quality experience to good use in our production operations," said Sunke. The company also announced that production will be taken over by Danish Crown Fleisch, a subsidiary of Danish Crown Prork.
