Over the first 6 months of the year, Spain managed to double its pork exports to China. Compared to the same period last year, a growth of 107% was achieved. In total, 539.627 tons of pork were exported, making Asia the most important destination for Spain.

Not only has the export volume increased significantly, the export value also increased. Over the first 6 months of 2019, the value of pork destined for China amounted to approximately €442 million. This year the value amounted to almost €1,2 billion, an increase of no less than 170%.

Anprogapor says the growth is the result of the African Swine Fever (ASF) which devastated much of China's pig population. As a result, the Chinese demand for pork has grown considerably.

Now that Germany, one of the largest European pig producers, has been hit by ASF and as a result has lost its export license to various countries, Spanish export opportunities are increasing further.
