Second ASF infection in Saxony is a false alarm

9 November 2020 - Chanti Oussoren

The African swine fever has been raging through Germany for 2 months. The infections are spreading further and further, 10 days ago a first infection in Saxony confirmed. A second case reported this weekend turns out to be a false alarm.

The outbreak started 2 months ago in the German state of Brandenburg. In the meantime, infections have been found in 3 districts. The federal state of Saxony was recently added to this. For a while there was fear of a second infection in Saxony, but the German website Topagrar now reports that this information is incorrect. The Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Cohesion has confirmed that there is no second infection in the state.

Joint Hunting in Saxony
In Saxony, hunters are encouraged to intensify the hunt for wild boar in an effort to minimize the further spread of ASF. The coronavirus presents hunters with new challenges. Additional hygiene measures are necessary, according to the ministry, which is why hunters must present a special hygiene concept.

These concepts mainly concern the observance of the minimum distance of 1,5 meters. Everyone who participates in the hunt must also wear mouth and nose protection and people with corona symptoms are not allowed to participate in the hunt. Each hunter must also sign up for an attendance list.
