Vion gives direction to the extremely difficult situation on the pig market and reduces...
Although Vion sets the tone, the step does not happen as a surprise. For weeks, the supply in Northwestern Europe has been far too large in relation to the processing capacity, prompted by the large slaughter backlog in Germany. Moreover, meat sales are slow.
Busy on meat market
Now that 3 Danish Crown slaughter locations in Denmark are no longer allowed to export to China, there has been extra pressure on the European meat market. Meat sales had already been disrupted due to the lockdowns in many countries. Looking at DCA's meat change quotations, price pressure can be seen on hams and mediums. These both drop by 3 cents per kilo. Meat parts also fell in value in the weeks before.
A significant reduction is also looming at other slaughterhouses in our country that record on Wednesdays. A decline in Germany seems inevitable, just like in many other European countries.
