Despite all measures, Germany has not yet been able to bring the African Swine Fever to a halt. The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute (FLI) is releasing 20 new infections this week.
The contagious virus continues to spread among wild boars in Germany. The latest figures from this week show that 20 wild boars have again been infected in the hotspot region of Brandenburg. This brings the number to 322 infections in wild boars. Until now, the German pig farming sector has been spared.
Limited to Hotspot
The FLI says that the situation does not change much with the 20 new finds. They are all located in the Spree-Neisse, Oder Spree and Märkisch-Oderland districts, the area identified as a virus hotspot. Thus, the virus has not spread to new places. That is basically good news because Germany is still negotiating with China to get rid of the export ban and convert it into an export ban for only the affected areas.
At the end of November, infected animals were found in the Saxony region. The FLI reports that the situation is stable and no new cases have been found for 2 weeks.
