Laurens Hoedemaker will succeed Jos Goebbels as chairman of the Central Organization for the Meat Sector (COV) and the Dutch Meat Industry (VNV) from May this year.
Both meat organizations think that they have found the ideal chairman for Jos Goebbels in the 50-year-old Hoedemaker, who plans to retire after more than 10 years of chairmanship. For the past 6 years Hoedemaker was director of the Dutch Hunters Association, which was repositioned at that time. Among other things, work was done on social support, which is also a current theme in the meat sector.
Before that, he worked as a veterinarian and worked at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality as secretary of the Council for Animal Affairs. He also chaired the European Forum for Animal Welfare Councils from 2010 to 2014. In short, he does not lack relevant work experience for his new position.
Master plan 2025
COV vice-chairman Henny Swinkels is therefore pleased with Hoedemaker's arrival. "I know Laurens as a passionate, honest and strategic advocate with an eye for what is going on in society and a feeling for political relationships. His networks in politics, with policymakers and in the professional field are of great importance to the COV. management and together with the members, the COV will further flesh out our master plan for 2025 and the further sustainability of the meat sector."
