There has been no question of a negative routine on the piglet market for some time now. The piglet price is on an upward trend and will also increase this week. It is even the most significant price increase since May last year.
The piglet market is recovering well after a less good year. The demand for piglets is currently good and the supply is not ample, which is why the piglet price has risen in recent times. There is also good demand for piglets from Germany and not everywhere the demand can be met immediately.
Export
The demand for piglets from exports is also good. In week 5, even more piglets were exported than in 2019 and 2020. The good exports are partly driven by Spanish demand. In weeks 5 and 6, more than 40.000 piglets went to Spain. That is almost twice as much as last year.
BPP takes a big leap
Due to the good market conditions, the DCA BestPigletPrice continues the increase once again. The quotation increases this week by €3 to €37 per piglet, marking the most significant price increase since this year. The quotation has not even risen so sharply since the end of May last year. The last time the piglet price rose faster was at the end of 2019. With the sharp price increase, the quotation has again reached the highest level since the beginning of July last year.
Not only in the Netherlands does the price continue to rise, prices are also developing positively again in Germany and Denmark. However, prices have not matched the Dutch increase. The German VEZG quotation increases by €2,50 to €35 per piglet and in Denmark the price increases by €2,70 to €44,40.
