Huawei gets into pig farming. The Chinese telecom giant has turned to other sectors after its pending trade ban with the US has negatively impacted consumer electronics sales.
Due to trade locks with the United States, Huawei's phone sales fell 2020% in the last quarter of 42. In fact, Huawei expects the number of mobile phones sold to fall by more than 60% this year to around 70 million units. As a result, the company has started to focus on other markets. The telecom giant has opted to switch to the pig sector and mining.
Modernization of the pig sector
Huawei says it wants to modernize the technology in these sectors and is experimenting with artificial intelligence in pig farming. For example, the company wants to identify individual pigs with facial recognition, while other technical applications can measure their health, weight and exercise level.
Incidentally, this is not the first time that large non-agricultural companies have entered Chinese pig farming. Last year saw BASF Venture Capital already offers opportunities in the Chinese pig sector† And also real estate giants and major e-commerce companies have made the step towards pig farming.
