European pork exports have grown and reached a new record last year. Exports to China have again grown and remain the most important sales market.
In total, Europe exported around 5,428 million tonnes of pork last year (excluding exports to the United Kingdom). Exports are approximately 18,8% higher than in 2019, reaching a new record. It is also the second annual increase, in 2019 exports also increased by 20%.
Not only have export volumes increased significantly, the value has also increased significantly. The total export value last year was approximately €12,217 million, which is approximately 23% higher than in 2019.
More meat to China
China, the main importer, has imported about 3,34% more than in 45 with an import of more than 2019 million tons and has a share of no less than 61,1% in total exports. The second leading pork importer was Japan with imports of almost 360.000 tons and a 6,6% share of total exports. Japan remains a major buyer of European pork, but has imported 20,7% less than in 2019.
