The Danish meat concern is going to cancel the B-price, which was created in November 2020, in mid-March. This is because the slaughter capacity has been increased and the slaughterhouse can handle the current supply well.
In November last year, the board of directors of Danish Crown decided to set 2 different prices for pigs offered. This is because fewer pigs were exported due to the outbreak of African swine fever in Germany and the domestic supply suddenly increased sharply. There were approx 350.000 pigs ready for slaughter above the market. In order to process the extra pigs without the normal supply being affected, a B-prize was created.
Since then, the meat company has significantly increased its slaughter capacity and hired no fewer than 500 new employees. With the increased capacity, Danish Crown can handle the current pig supply and it has therefore been announced that it will cancel the B price again on March 15.
More pigs slaughtered
The B prize has proven to be successful. Between October 2020 and January 31, 2021, no fewer than 11% more pigs were delivered than in the same period a year earlier.
