Russian pig giant bets on meat snacks

11 March 2021 - Kimberly Bakker

The sale of meat snacks is on the rise in Russia. Over the past few years, sales have increased by about 30% annually and there does not seem to be any brake on this growth for the coming years. For the Russian pig giant Cherkizovo, this is a reason to launch a range of meat snacks for the first time.

Cherkizovo, one of Russia's largest pig producers, is introducing a range of meat snacks on the Russian market for the first time this spring. The company is thus further expanding its product portfolio. According to the Russian pig giant, the introduction of the meat snacks will boost total sales, because (especially dried) meat snacks have been popular among Russians for years. Annual sales of various meat snacks grow by about 30%.

Recent research shows that especially Russians between the ages of 26 and 40, with an above-average income, consume snacks. These meat snacks are usually eaten while watching movies (51%) and are also seen as a way to refuel at home (47%) and outdoors (40%). Analysts expect strong growth to continue in the coming years. For Cherkizovo, that prediction was the reason to bet on it.

Pork, chicken and turkey
The product mix is divided into 3 different groups: snacks made from pork, from chicken meat and snacks made from turkey. The goal is to sell the meat snacks in the majority of stores by the fall.
