Saxony expands AVP restriction zones

15 March 2021 - Chanti Oussoren

African swine fever (ASF) remains a hot topic in Germany. Last week there was a positive development, but there are also setbacks. In Saxony, a restricted zone is being extended.

Last week there were positive reports about it the fence around the border with Poland. There is now a massive fence of 138 kilometers. With this, the largest core area is fenced off and the white zone in Oder-Spree and Dahme Spreewald is ready.

Saxony expands restricted zones
However, there are also negative developments. In Saxony, the restricted areas are being expanded after new contamination detections. Following new finds in East Saxony, the state is expanding the restricted zones in the district of Görlitz. The restricted area has tripled from 322 square meters to 989 square kilometers.

The number of infections in Saxony has now risen to 61 and in Brandenburg the counter is at 763 cases. With this, the total number of infections among wild boars has passed 800.

Critique of crisis management
The Brandenburg State Yacht Association (LJVB) issued a press release last week in which it strongly criticizes the crisis team. "We are running behind the facts," said the president of the association. The LJVB therefore calls for the AVP crisis team to be regrouped in Brandenburg.
