In the Russian pig sector, the degree of concentration is increasing. The country's largest pork producer alone accounts for 10% of total production. The 10 largest companies together provide more than half of the pork. The strong expansion of the major producers offers Russia the opportunity to become an exporter of pork.
The 10 largest Russian pig producers have expanded production above average compared to the national average, reports the Russian Association of Pig Farmers. According to the alliance, the top 10 companies would have increased production by 17,5% to a total of 2,55 million tons (live weight).
Total Russian pork production is said to have increased by 10,8% to 4,89 million tons. The total market share of the top 10 producers has thus come to 52%.
Miratorg number 1
Miratorg is by far the largest Russian producer. This company produced about 2020 tons of pork in 522.300, an increase of 22,4% compared to the previous year. With this it alone accounts for 10% of the national production. Miratorg is also Russia's largest producer of beef and is also active in the production of poultry meat, the production of meat products and ready meals.
Russia can become an exporter
Russia has been self-sufficient since last year and can provide for its own pork needs. The strongly growing pork production increases the possibilities for Russia to export pork to the lucrative Asian market. It recently emerged that Vietnam in particular is on the market for the purchase of Russian pork, a country that also imports a lot of pork from, among others, Germany. At the beginning of March, it was announced that Vietnam has agreed to the 'regionalization principle' regarding African swine fever and has resumed imports from Germany.
