Brazil pork export breaks records

Brazilian pork exports appear to be accelerating further. In March, much more pork was exported than last year, and exports even set a new monthly record.

In total, Brazil exported approximately 109.200 tons of pork in March. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 51,5%. The amount of Brazilian pork exported in one month has never been so high.

The export value of total exports in March rose even faster in percentage terms. The total value of pork exported in March was $261,7 million, up 57,6% from a year earlier. For the entire first quarter, the volume converted was 253.500 tons, 21,86% more than last year. The value of this amounted to $594 million, compared to $485,1 million in the first quarter of 2020.

Asia is leading the way
For Brazilian pork processors, as with other major exporters, it is Asian buyers who are pulling the weight. The largest importers of Brazilian pork in March were China (58.700 tons), Hong Kong (17.500 tons) and third, South American Chile (5.100 tons). According to the chairman of the Brazilian Association of Pigs and Poultry Producers (ABPA), record figures are also expected to be recorded for the entire year of 2021. The American Meat Export Federation (USMEF) also recently announced that it is looking forward to the coming year with confidence due to a strong international demand for meat.
