China is expanding the list of US meat suppliers allowed to export to China. It is the second time this month that China has awarded export licenses to US slaughterhouses.
In March, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) published a list of hundreds of slaughterhouses eligible to export to China under the new, less restrictive terms negotiated for the Phase 1 trade deal. There were 492 beef slaughterhouses and 449 pig slaughterhouses on the list.
New slaughterhouses gain access
China has already provided a number of slaughterhouses with export licences. Starting next week, 31 American slaughterhouses will have access to the Chinese market. This concerns the production of pork, beef and poultry. On April 8, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) also gave permission to 19 other slaughterhouses.
