The number of boars with African swine fever (ASF) found in Germany for the period 18 to 25 May is higher than previously reported. In these 7 days, not 17 ASF cases were identified, but 28. Infected animals were also found outside the original core zones.
The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) has retroactively announced new infections, which were already detected last week. The number of cases diagnosed in Brandenburg last week remained at 17. A total of 1.000 ASF-infected pigs have been found since the first outbreak of ASF in Brandenburg. In Saxony, the counter now stands at 197. Despite the upward adjustment, the number of infections appears to be at a slightly lower level than in recent months.
More bad news: new area infected near Frankfurt (Oder)
What hunters involved in combating ASF had already feared became reality this week. Infected wild boars have been found outside the already constructed fences near Frankfurt (Oder), a city on the border with Poland. This involved 2 infected pigs. The local authorities then decided to cordon off a new core area with electric electric fence. In addition, the search for sick and dead pigs in this region is now continuing.
