The demand for pigs is still not great and due to the broken slaughter week due to the holidays, the supply exceeds the demand. Do the weather forecasts for the coming week offer a better outlook?
Due to the cancellation of slaughter days due to the holidays, the pig supply has increased somewhat. Unfortunately, sales were also disappointing due to the rainy weather. Not only domestic sales are disappointing, exports to Asia are also reported to be slowing down. The pressure on the European market is therefore increasing somewhat. In China there has also been a significant price drop as a result of pigs that are seriously overweight.
Last Wednesday, the German VEZG quotation remained unchanged at €1,54 per kilo due to the limited meat trade. The DCA Exchange Price 2.0 will also remain stable for next week. This means a price of €1,59 for slaughtered pigs and €1,20 for live pigs.
Optimism can be detected
Yet the prospects are not bad and there is optimism on the market. This has to do with the summer temperatures that have been predicted. The weather next week looks sunny and pleasant, which is expected to stimulate meat consumption.
The market had been waiting for this for quite some time. When the barbecues are lit and people order a piece of pork on terraces again, it is quite possible that the sun will also shine on the pig market next week.
