JBS, originally Brazilian, was hit by a hack on the information system this weekend. Computer networks of the world's largest meat processor have largely come to a halt and meat processing has also been shut down in several locations.
JBS USA determined last Sunday (May 30) that it had been the target of an organized hack that affected multiple servers supporting systems in North America and Australia. Activities at several locations were shut down on Monday, said Brent Eastwood, JBS Australia Chief Executive Officer.
Certain transactions with customers and suppliers are also likely to be delayed. According to an Australian union, the hack has sent up to 10.000 JBS employees home in that country. The Canadian factory in the state of Alberta, which processes approximately 4.200 cattle a day, has also come to a standstill.
Duration of the interruption
JBS says it has not received any signals that the hackers have stolen important data. We are working hard to get all IT systems up and running again. The company says it is working hard to resolve the incident, but cannot provide an indication of how long the interruption will last.
