Now the pig market is flooded with pork, the piglet trade is also a lot more difficult. Traders are noticing that there is more pressure on the market. Demand is significantly less now that the pig market is also under some pressure.

Not only domestic sales are slowing down, exports have also fallen sharply. Total Dutch piglet exports fell to approximately 22 piglets in week 111.000. This means that exports are below the level of previous years for the first time since week 14.

The declining total exports are also reflected in the export figures to Germany and Spain. Both have fallen significantly in week 22. Approximately 70.000 piglets went to Germany, which is a decrease of more than 10.000 piglets compared to the previous week. And Spain imported just under 25.000 piglets. That is approximately 5.000 piglets less than in week 21, but still more than last year.

The declining imports are related to a larger domestic supply in Germany and a lower Spanish import requirement. Spain can export significantly less pork to China and therefore has less need for piglets.

DCA BestPigletPrice
Under the current circumstances, the DCA BestPigletPrice cannot maintain the price level. For next week the quotation will be €48,50, which is €1 less than last week.

The piglet price is also falling in Denmark for the first time in a long time. Although the price remains considerably higher there than in the Netherlands. The quotation drops to the equivalent of €64,55. In Germany, the VEZG quotation remains stable at €53 per piglet.
