European pork exports in the first 4 months of 20201 were still well above the level of last year. However, growth is slowing down somewhat compared to the figures for the first quarter.
From January to April, Europe exported a total of 2.107 million tons of pork respectively. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 24,3%. Although growth is still strong, it is slowing down compared to the increase in the first quarter. At the time, the level was 30% ahead of last year.
The export value for the first 4 months of the year was approximately €4,6 billion. This amounts to an increase of 14,4% compared to last year. However, the percentage increase is approximately 2,1% lower than the increase in the first quarter.
Expectation
It is expected that the decline will continue in the short term. Trade reports indicate that China's import requirement has fallen sharply. This has helped ensure that a lot of pork enters the European market and brings with it falling piglet and pig prices.
