Brazilian pork exports managed to reach record volumes again in June. 2021 is also expected to be a record year for pork exports.
In total, Brazil exported 108.800 tons of pork in June. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 13,2%. With this, the export reaches the second highest monthly export ever. The value was $270 million.
China was again the main buyer of Brazilian pork in June. Chile, Vietnam, the Philippines and Argentina also imported large volumes, the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) confirmed. According to Luis Rua, director of ABPA, the higher exports are due to returning economic activity in different regions. It also faces lower supply in competitive countries such as the United States. “Brazil has increased its participation in the global pork trade and this is expected to remain the focus throughout 2021.”
2021 new record year
The export figures for the first half of the year are significantly above last year's level. A total of 562.700 tons of pork were exported (+17,39%) with a value of $1,349 billion (+25,4%). At the same time, production costs are also rising sharply for Brazilian pig farmers, mainly driven by higher feed costs.
