Where the pig sector in the Netherlands has been contracting for several years now, Klasse Ki has managed to expand its turnover. This is mainly made possible by the ability to quickly export all over the world. "We deliver the semen just as quickly to a Thai as to a Dutchman", says Stefan Derks, director of Klasse Ki and regional manager of DanBred.
Klasse Ki recently held an event for customers and parties associated with the pig sector. The day was organized in honor of the new bear stable that was put into use last year. Those present were updated about the genetic progress at the Danish DanBred.
The new semen collection station of Class Ki should enable further (international) growth of the company. Last year made Boerenbusiness already an extensive report about the new stable.
In addition to quantity, we also focus on quality
The Duroc genetics produced stand for high growth in finishing pigs and high reproduction rates in sows. Derks: "Two-thirds of our pigs are destined for abroad, so as a sector we must continue to invest in lowering the cost price. If we don't do this, there is no future for two-thirds of the companies. DanBred genetics can help pig farmers with this assist". Breeding goals are aimed at further increasing growth, but certainly also further reducing feed conversion. This also means progress for the fattening pig farmer.
In addition to good technical results, the quality of the meat is very important for sales, especially in certain export markets. The Duroc excels in this, according to Derks: "Beautiful marbled meat with the right colour."
Those present at the Class Ki meeting also got an interesting insight into the developments on the Spanish market. More on that tomorrow.
