While the German pig quotation had to give in last week to a downward adjustment desired by the slaughterhouses, there seems to be something of a bottom in the market. That does not mean that there is a change of mood.
The meat trade is still far too weak for that. Demand both within European borders and exports to third countries is still characterized as insufficient. However, for now the prices seem to have dropped enough to bring the market into some balance.
Increasing supply stabilizes
In addition to the moderate meat trade, the volume offered and the weight of slaughter pigs in Germany have increased in recent weeks. The relatively cool summer weather seems to have resulted in the fattening pigs growing well recently. However, last week the number of slaughters decreased slightly. More than 819.000 pigs were processed, more than 15.000 fewer than the previous week.
The German VEZG quotation was set unchanged this week at a level of €1,37 per kilo of slaughtered weight. That is unchanged from last week.
