Slaughterhouse Gosschalk in Epe is not yet reducing the number of pigs that the company would like and that traders hope for. First, there are still a few problems to solve.
In particular, the animal-friendly driving of the pigs to anaesthetization is not yet proceeding as the NVWA believes it should, according to traders. Until this point is resolved, only small groups of pigs can be delivered. The slaughter of cattle is now proceeding reasonably satisfactorily, it is reported. Gosschalk himself does not communicate about the state of affairs.
At the beginning of July, the slaughterhouse closed by order of the NVWA† That happened after undercover camera images surfaced, showing cases of animal cruelty. Last week, Gosschalk was finally allowed to start slaughtering again, after several previous improvement plans were rejected.
