In general, little has changed in the situation on the market for finishing pigs. The pressure on the market means that prices will have to take a step back this week.
Even though the pig market had stabilized since the beginning of September, everyone and everything could tell that there was still considerable pressure. The unchanged quotations were therefore achieved with difficulty.
Meat trade much too quiet
The demand for pork from export areas remains calm and domestic sales are not providing any impetus. The flood of pork on the European market is putting further pressure on prices. The odds for various pork parts fell again last week.
What is not helping the German market is the somewhat increased supply of live pigs. While around 800.000 pigs were slaughtered per week last summer, this number has now risen to around 840.000 pigs per week. Last week the numbers remained stable compared to the week before. The average slaughtered weight decreased by 0,1 kilo to 97,1 kilo.
The German VEZG quotation for this week has been set at €1,24 per kilo of slaughtered weight. That is €0,01 lower than last week. Tönnies even reduces by 5 cents to €1,20 per kilo. The meat company uses a so-called Hauspreis. The nice words owner Clemens Tönnies' statement that pig farmers must be pulled through the crisis has a bitter aftertaste.
Dutch slaughterhouses adjust quotations downwards
Last week's unchanged German quotation did not provide sufficient guidance for Dutch slaughterhouses. Although the DCA Stock Exchange Price 2.0 was unchanged last week, the slaughterers are adjusting their quotations downwards this week. After Vion provided a first step on Monday by recording -€0,03 per kilo carcass weight, Compaxo also followed today with a similar negative change.
The Dutch quotations have given up considerably more ground than the German ones in recent months. The DCA Exchange Price 2.0 for this week, at €1,24 per kilo carcass weight, is €0,35 lower than in week 21. In the same period, the German VEZG quotation has fallen by €0,29 per kilo from €1,54 to €1,25 per kilo carcass weight.
