Figures from Wageningen Economic Research show that the price of pork chunks increased by €0,25 in September to €28,25 per 100 kilos. This is the highest level in eight years. Moreover, the increase is not over yet. The Compound feed price indicator van Boerenbusiness expects further price increases of approximately 5% in the coming months.

The price of other feeds also increased, the price of sow pellets for pregnancy by €0,15 to €29,70. Sow pellet lakto with €0,25 to €34,20 and piglet pellet with €0,20 to €40,35. Where yields in pig farming are under heavy pressure, costs continue to increase.

Wheat on the rise
The rising bulk prices are the result of the ever-increasing raw material markets. The wheat price on the Matif in Paris (December contract) is on its way to €260 per tonne. The European market is being driven up by disappointing yields in France, among others.

Worldwide wheat production will increase this year, by 3,4 million tons, according to the latest data Wasde-report On the other hand, consumption will increase by 3 million tons. The deficit for the 2021-22 season is estimated at almost 10 million tons. Wheat is an important component in pig pellets and the price increases in recent months have yet to be passed on in pellet prices.
