While the European export of pork cannot break any pots, Brazil did manage to achieve an export record in September. Brazil started registering export volumes in 1997 and the export volume has never been as high as last month. The underlying value also rose to record highs.
Last month, Brazilians shipped 187.000 tons of beef, 101.000 tons of pork and 388.000 poultry meat. All in all, that is an increase of 20% compared to the same month in 2020. China is the main driver behind the high export figures. The Asian country buys more than half of the beef and pork and 15% of the exported poultry meat.
More pork to China
Brazilian pork exports to China increased by 22% to 53.400 tons. This is striking, because China has been importing considerably less pork in the past month. Last month, Chinese meat imports hit their lowest level in nineteen months, but apparently Europe suffers more from this than Brazil.
Brazil expects meat exports to set a new record this year. So far, 1,27 million tons of beef, 776.000 tons of pork and 3,2 million tons of poultry meat have been exported and with these volumes a new export record is up for grabs.
