The months-long glide in the amount of pork imported by China will come to a halt in October for the time being. The volumes declined only minimally.
This is evident from the most recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics of China. Since this spring, volumes have fallen by almost 50% in total. While volumes this spring were already at a lower level than a year earlier. However, in October, a total of 300.000 tons of pork (including by-products) were imported by China. That was only 10.000 tons lower than a month earlier. That means a decline of about 3%.
Minimal decrease in meat imports
The decrease was due to a small decrease in the volume of meat. The quantity fell by 10.000 tons compared to September to 200.000 tons. Imports of pork by-products remained unchanged at 100.000 tons. The total value of pork imported by China still fell considerably. In September this amounted to $755 million compared to $698 in October. A decrease of 7,5%.
