Russian pork giant Miratorg claims it has already sold about 40.000 tons of pork to buyers in Vietnam this year. The company has thus become - in its own words - the largest player on the Vietnamese market.
The Vietnamese pig population has been plagued for years by outbreaks of African swine fever. That is why it imports a lot of pork and the country is an important destination for exporters. Miratorg signed a deal this year with a Vietnamese trading company, which stated that imports would be significantly increased. This has given Miratorg - it seems - quite a bit of market potential. Russia is now self-sufficient and companies in the country are therefore focusing more on exports.

The Vietnamese market has also become increasingly important for European pork exporters. In the first nine months of the year, Vietnam was the sixth largest buyer of pork from Europe in volume. Moreover, during this period, exports to the Asian country were 33% higher than last year. It should be noted, however, that volumes were at a high level, especially this spring. In recent months, the quantities sold have decreased and are again around the level of last year.
European exporters jointly exported approximately 110.000 tons of pork to Vietnam up to and including September. A peak was reached in May, when 19.400 tons of product were exported. In September, this volume had fallen to 7.700 tons.
