The approaching holidays are no obstacle to higher piglet prices. Europe-wide, the quotations are crawling out of the price trough.
Sales of piglets are also going well this week with a clear supply, traders indicate. There has been a relatively large amount of sex in recent weeks and that creates room for placement. Pig farmers are moving quickly to avoid price increases.
Quotes in the elevator
Exports to Germany and Spain are also going well. We therefore see higher piglet prices in those countries. The German VEZG quotation increases this week by €1 to €23 per piglet. The piglet price in Spain increased by €2 last week to €25. Based on the statements, the DCA BestPigletPrice will increase this week by €1 to €25,50.
Sales are expected to slow down somewhat between Christmas and New Year. The balance can then be drawn up again at the beginning of 2022. There does not seem to be much potential for growth for the time being, given the moderate prospects on the pig market. Traders do think that piglet prices could reach €30 within the foreseeable weeks.

Explanation:
The piglets are selling quickly, not only on the export market. The demand for piglets is also good domestically. Transport capacity is currently plaguing actual sales to Spain, because many drivers want to be home in time for Christmas. Nevertheless, the piglets are placed quickly, which is reflected in the statements from traders.

Comments from traders included with the price movement for week 51:
- Despite a difficult pig market, a small increase in piglet quotation is still necessary.
- Max €0.50 extra, difficult week of piglet market (free trade) due to no crowds with laying out.
- Piglet price unchanged. This week and next week, maintain calm on the market and do not go off the rails with price increases. Our price is good compared to the German quotation.
- Sales are clearly better. It will become clear after Christmas and the New Year whether it really is better. Don't take too big steps.
