Last year, which was downright bad, the piglet market still managed to close somewhat positively. For the time being, prices are able to resume the upward trend that has started in the new year.
Demand will improve as we get closer to spring, as is historically common. However, for a real boost, we will have to wait until the situation on the pig market improves. So soon after the New Year, there is no prospect of this yet. This means that the room for increase is limited in a certain sense.
Piglet exports have been at a lower level in recent weeks. The fact that the holidays are now behind us makes transport to distant destinations such as Spain and Eastern Europe easier. However, it is mainly the domestic demand for piglets that moves the market in terms of prices.
For week 1, despite a number of comments, traders opt for an increase of €1. This brings the quotation to €27 per piglet.

Explanation:
Despite the fact that fewer pigs have been slaughtered, there appears to be sufficient placement space for piglets. This ensures that the intake of piglets is described as positive and that there are opportunities for a further increase in the DCA BestPigletPrice (BPP). For a number of traders it is crystal clear that the plus should be euros. Besides the fact that trade is going well, that should be the way to pull the pig market out of the doldrums. Other traders are still held back by the sluggish pig market. On average, a slightly friendlier market with the prospect of further increases.
