Following the cuts in Germany, Vion is also cutting the pig price. The pressure has grown.
The meat group lowers the weekly quotation by 3 cents to €1,28 per kilo (including VAT). This brings an end to a stable period that lasted no less than fifteen weeks.
The reduction does not come out of the blue. Last week, the meat concern the publication of the pig price due to unrest in the pig market due to, among other things, the outbreak of African swine fever in Italy. There are also concerns about the omikron variant that could potentially disrupt the workforce in slaughterhouses. In addition, meat prices will not hold up in the new year.
quite a bit of unrest
The large German slaughterhouses already reduced their prices last week, including the German branch of Vion. A few days later followed a lot of unrest in the sector that is now also leading to lower pig prices in the Netherlands. Now that Vion has taken the lead, it is not unlikely that the other slaughterhouses in our country will come up with a price reduction.
