Plus price Westfort 'signal', hausprice German slaughterers

Although a small increase in the VEZG quotation was expected by market parties yesterday, the size of the plus is described by many as 'significant'. The German pig slaughterers Tönnies and Vion currently see no room for such an increase and are trading unchanged at €1,20 per kilo of slaughtered weight.
Westfort plust
While most Dutch slaughterhouses are also trading unchanged this week, the Westfort slaughterhouse has increased its trading price by €0,02 cents per kilo. Jaap de Wit Jr. of the group hopes to send a signal to the meat market, he said when asked. "We are currently noticing that the demand for certain meat parts is a bit friendlier. We cannot speak of shortages, but we still have to see that we help the market over the threshold. It is hoped that a clear signal that the market is now looking upwards could provide a further impetus."
The friendlier meat trade is the result of a somewhat revived demand for pork from Europe. "We see a bit more balance at European level and thus demand arises. This has to do with a slightly smaller supply in a number of countries, but also with the time of year. A further shrinkage of slaughter numbers in Germany can also come from this angle will increase demand somewhat." When asked whether there is more music available on the export markets, De Wit is clear: "Demand from Asia is still quiet."
After the plus, Westfort's quotation is €1,11 per kilo excluding VAT. Vion is trading this week at €1,28 per kilo including VAT. Compaxo stands at €1,08 per kilo excluding VAT and van Rooi stands at €1,09 per kilo excluding VAT.
