A total of 1.345 pigs were sold for prices between €1,55 and €1,75 per kilo carcass weight. The average price was €1,62. The increase is the largest in one week since 2005. Last Tuesday, February 22, the stock market reached an average price of €1,35.

Pigs wanted
The trade hears that German slaughterhouses are clearly showing more interest in buying pigs. Although in Germany mainly the offer initiative tierwohlpigs seems tight, there is certainly demand for 'conventional' pigs. There is also some indignation among insiders about the fact that German slaughterhouses are leading the way, while they are faced with major export restrictions.

The Dutch Vion yesterday increased its pig quotation by €0,12, bringing it to €1,44 per kilo of slaughtered weight, including VAT. Despite the increases, the mood in the sector is still anything but euphoric. Due to the prospect of further rising raw material and thus feed prices, selling prices for pigs will have to rise considerably further.
