It was inevitable: now that the pig prices are exploding, the piglet price is also taking a mega step up. Due to the optimism that has permeated the sector, piglets are suddenly unattainable.
Rapidly rising pig prices have fueled the will to impose piglets. The sooner the better, because next week new couples will probably be a lot more expensive, or so the thought. Compared to the finishing pigs, the piglets were priced relatively favorably, so many are looking for bargains in the market. However, they are bad.
The development in the market naturally leads to higher prices. The VEZG piglet price even took a historically large step up this week. The quotation rises by €15 to €42 per piglet, leaving the price drop behind for good. The DCA BestPigletPrice also takes a big step up, rising by €10,50 to €44 per piglet. Prices also continue to rise on the pig market, as Vion increases the weekly quotation by 16 cents to €1,60 per kilo.
