Although the total number of wild boars infected with African swine fever (ASF) that are found has been declining somewhat in recent times, the situation seems far from calm. This week, after almost a month without infections, an infected boar was found again in the northern German state of Mecklenburg - Western Pomerania.
The find, which was confirmed on Tuesday, April 5, was the first since March 7. The long absence of infections fueled the hope that the outbreak in the northern German state had been well contained. It now appears that the virus is still present. The discovery was made in Ludwigslust-Parchim, where previously infected boars were also found.
Virus seems to be returning in Brandenburg, many infections in Sachsen
In Brandenburg, where ASF was first found on German soil, the situation seems to have calmed down considerably in recent months. For a long time, the state was in the lead when it comes to the number of infections. Sachsen now seems to be the main problem area with by far the most infections every month.
