Price drop also affects piglet prices

Now that pig prices have taken a serious hit, the bottom under piglet prices is lower than expected. The All in All out stables now also remain empty on a large scale.

"The piglets cannot be sold," sigh traders. Where there had been hardly any demand for some time, sales dropped completely through zero this week. All-in all-outstables currently remain empty when the finishers are gone. It is precisely these stables that usually absorb large numbers of piglets. There is also no export demand.

Vion will lower the pig price this week by 7 cents to €1,79 per kilo, including VAT. The hope in the market is based on a stable price for the German pig price soon. Preferably this week, to limit further losses and create more peace. The prevailing thought is that the German VEZG pig quotation may remain stable after a hard blow next Wednesday. There are of course no guarantees, so that remains to be seen.

German piglet quotation sharply down
In the meantime, the VEZG listing of the piglets has also been markedly downgraded, after the allowances had already been planed in recent weeks. With €45 per piglet, Germany is again under the Netherlands and that puts extra pressure on the DCA BestPigletPrice. Fattening pig farmers with fixed couplings logically allude to reductions, forcing multipliers to sink even deeper into the red. The sector is eroding itself that way, but that's how the market works in difficult times.

There are no bright spots, except that the demand for BBQ meat will increase as the temperatures rise further. However, DCA casing part prices have seen a significant drop this week, so that's a vain hope for now. The questions for the DCA BestPigletPrice vary from hard down to extremely hard down. Ultimately, the quotation comes to €42,50 per piglet, which amounts to a decrease of €5,50.
