Vion scares sector with significant cut

13 May 2022 - Wouter Baan - 5 comments

In all the commotion that is already going on in the pig market, Vion is throwing extra fuel on the fire. The German branch of the slaughter group has indicated that it will lower the pig price by another 20 cents to €1,60 per kilo from Monday.

In the letter that was sent to the suppliers today (and is shared en masse via Whatsapp), Vion talks about a precarious situation on the pork market. As a result, they say they are forced to take a serious measure by sharply lowering the pig price from Monday (week 20), regardless of what the VEZG listing will do next Wednesday. The reduction applies to deliveries to the locations in Crailsheim, Landshut and Vilshofen.

Vion's announcement is inconvenient in view of the weak market picture, just as prices were still able to stabilize in the past week. Vion Germany could not be reached for comment on Friday.

Tönnies and Westfleisch have meanwhile announced that they will not follow Vion's movement, but will maintain the pig price for the time being at €1,80 per kilo.

Update: Saturday 14-5 Vion will have the announced price reduction again undone

Vion scares sector? Vion throws the pig sector at risk. Meat mutations are unchanged why people want to go to minus 20 is an incomprehensible situation. What they are doing is killing the sector. Purchasing prices minus 20 meat buyers fall and destroy the farmer. Vion has to show the guts to turn the knobs at the Retail, not to tackle the individual farmer, but to really sharpen the sales side. (Big is afraid of big.) Coming up with all kinds of concepts and delivering them at predatory prices.

That's right. But in the meantime we are going at a rotten pace into the abyss.

In the meantime, Vion is retracing its steps, but they have set a trend. Consciously manipulating the market, do cheap pigs freeze yourself with a subsidy?
If we as a pig sector continue to fight for returns throughout the chain, the slaughterhouses will also be part of this compared to the retail sector. But if the slaughterhouses remain on the customer's side, the slaughter hooks also empty.

All of Europe is facing the same problem. Is it so difficult to calculate the cost price increase with the sale? If Jumbo and co do not want that, they should import it from outside Europe and state that on the packaging.
Is to see if they have that guts

Vion should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!!
