So far, the first case of African swine fever (ASF) detected at a small pig farm in Baden-Württemberg appears to be an isolated case.
After a week of intensive searches in the area for sick and dead boars, no cases of the disease have been found in wild animals. At all, no dead boars were found in the immediate vicinity of the affected company. No ASF was also found in six shot and tested boars. This seems to confirm the suspicion expressed by the regional ministry of agriculture last week that the virus disease was introduced by humans.
Number of cases in Germany is declining
In the other German provinces where ASF has been diagnosed, the number of cases found appears to have fallen sharply in recent months. In Brandenburg in particular, the number of sick boars has been reduced considerably. The total number of monthly confirmed cases of ASF has fallen from XNUMX at the end of last year to about XNUMX in May.
