After the Dutch pig quotations were able to take a step up last week, the German pig market is also moving this week. A positive sign, although traders report that there is no pronounced hosanna mood.
The shrinking supply of pigs for slaughter means that the pig trade is clearly improving. There is also some demand for pigs from abroad. German slaughterhouses are not showing too much interest and do not want to pay extra for free animals. The fact that the market is a bit more 'tidy up' is also evident from the average slaughter weights. They stabilize in week 23 at around 98,5 kilos.
Vleeshandel is also taking this step
The pork trade also looks a bit friendlier this week. After a first clear step was taken last week, the changes for the various pork parts are also positive this week. Hams, ribs and necks in particular sold somewhat better. The whole carcass became approximately €0,04 more expensive per kilo. In Germany, the number of pig slaughters amounted to 750.852 pigs with an average slaughtered weight of 97,0 kilos. The number of slaughters increased by about 70.000 animals after the short Pentecost week. The average slaughter weight decreased by 0,1 kilo.
The German VEZG quotation is set at €1,85 per kilo of slaughtered weight. That means a plus of €0,05 per kilo. Tönnies and Vion are following this mutation. Insiders hope that the market can take a number of steps higher in the coming weeks, although there are also warnings about the effect of the starting summer holidays. As a rule, sales of animals ready for slaughter are temporarily slower.
