Piglet prices continue to move upwards. However, the market is strongly determined by the sentiment that prevails on the pig market and that seems to be calming down a bit.
The piglet trade has improved in recent weeks, but the fence is not over. Due to the increased pig prices, trade is running more smoothly. Nothing more nothing less. This is especially the case inland. Export demand remains a more difficult story. For free piglets, bids often come in that are at or below the quotation level.
Following the DCA Stock Price, the Vion listing will also rise this week, by €0,03 to €1,90 per kilo (including VAT). This is a positive sign, because not everyone in the market was sure that this was going to happen. According to Vion, the increase that has been implemented is the maximum that can be achieved, because the demand for pork is not continuing. With the increase, the dip that occurred from mid-April has also virtually (with the exception of 1 cent) been negated. At the same time, there doesn't seem to be much room for further price increases at the moment. Slaughterhouses create a lot of mood and claim not to go along with it. Meanwhile, meat prices are still slowly moving upwards.
New impulses?
It is possible that the meat market will provide new impulses, since stable summer weather is on the way without it becoming tropical. In other words: ideal barbecue weather. At the same time, the summer holidays have started in the neighboring German federal states, leading to a drop in demand as people go out.
The developments in the pig market are strongly determining for the piglet trade at this time of the year. In early spring, the piglet price often anticipates market expectations. Now fattening pig farmers are only prepared to pay more if the yields actually improve.
The German VEZG quotation has remained stable in recent times, but has risen this week by €2,50 to €42,50 per piglet. Based on the statements, the DCA BestPigletPrice increases by €1 to €41,50 per piglet.
