The demand for piglets is calm. Very calm in fact, which makes it difficult for the DCA BestPigletPrice to remain unchanged this week.
There is little change to report in the piglet trade compared to previous weeks, except that the warm weather is no longer a spoilsport. The tropical schedule does not have to be used this week, to the relief of many traders.
The demand for piglets remains calm. This is due to the lackluster prospects on the pig market. Major price increases are not in the offing and that inhibits the motivation to impose flocks, let alone additional flocks. Due to the high feed costs, many fattening pig stables or departments remain empty. This makes the supply seem large, although the numbers are lower than in other years.
Stable odds
The German piglet price VEZG quotation remains unchanged this week at €42,50 per piglet. German pork farmers are also looking at the market. This inhibits export possibilities. It is also difficult to find sales for piglets in other markets, traders indicate.
A number of traders have opted for a reduction in the piglet price at DCA this week. The average of the assignments lies within a reduction. Nevertheless, the DCA BestPigletPrice can hold steady for the fifth week in a row at €41,50 per piglet.
