The piglet sales continue to run reasonably well through the permanent contacts. At least towards Germany. Towards Spain there are some cancellations due to the high temperatures. Residual flocks are also difficult to sell. Still, nothing crazy seems to be happening in the piglet trade as a whole.
This is evidenced by a survey among traders. The important German market remains stable. The German piglet quotation of the VEZG remains unchanged this week for the sixth time in a row at €42,50 per piglet.
No distribution Emsland
There seems to be a little more calm in the market. There is still a threat of African swine fever, but the recent infection in Emsland does not seem to lead to new cases. This leads to a great deal of relief, although the final signal 'fire master' has yet to be given. A further spread of ASF among kept pigs can lead to many problems in the pig sector due to logistical obstacles, loss of sales and the inability to export to various countries. As a result, fewer piglets would be reared immediately.
Incidentally, not many piglets are now imposed. Everything is locked in the Emsland region. Few piglets leave for southern Europe either. The temperatures are too high. Companies that are then left with batches of piglets must immediately be satisfied with a discount of a few euros per piglet.
The DCA BestPigletPrice also remains at €41,50 this week, which is unchanged for the sixth week in a row.
