The German pig price (Vereinigungsprijs) for the coming week will continue to rise. The VEZG has announced this. It is the second increase in a row, after nine weeks of stability at €1,85 per kilo.
For week 34 the price is €2,00 per kilo, which is 7 cents more than the week before.
15 cents in two weeks is a hefty amount, but apparently the market can handle it. It is not yet entirely clear whether the German slaughterhouses are taking the same steps. No price was yet known for Tönnies, nor for Vion Germany.
Vion Nederland increased the price by 10 cents in the past two weeks. The DCA grant price went up by the same amount. On Wednesday afternoon, both Compaxo and Van Rooi increased their prices by 6 cents each compared to last week.
The increases are the result of a fairly tight supply of fattening pigs and also steadily rising meat prices. Now that the holiday season is coming to an end, meat consumption in the Netherlands and Germany is also rising again and a slightly higher retail price does not seem to be an immediate obstacle.
