Van Rooi Meat saw profits halve in 2021 and turnover was also significantly lower. This is apparent from the recently filed annual accounts of the management BV of Marc and Addy van Rooi with the Chamber of Commerce. It is striking that Van Rooi Meat, as a separate BV, does dive into the red.
The turnover of the umbrella holding company is down 2021% in 10 to €673 million. Operating profit fell from €60 million to €16 million. Due to significantly higher interest income, the profit after tax amounts to €20,1 million. In 2020 this was still €41 million. Shareholders paid a dividend of €2021 million in 50.
It is striking that subsidiary Van Rooi Meat was loss-making in itself in 2021, according to the separate annual accounts of that BV. Net sales decreased by just under €100 million to €508 million with an after-tax loss of €1,6 million. In 2020, the profit was still €32 million. The sharp decline is related to the deteriorating conditions on the meat markets last year. Other meat concerns, such as Vion and Westfleisch, also recorded red figures last year.
China Export License
In addition, Van Rooi Meat lost its export license for almost the whole of 2021 to be able to export pork and by-products to China. That was because an export container had not been cooled properly, so Chinese customs withdrew the permit. The Brabant meat group has regained access to the Chinese sales market for a few weeks now. The company then spoke of a 'huge relief'.
