Uncertain pig market is not good for piglet sales
Although pig prices have risen to record highs, the market continues to feel rather shaky. This is also noticeable in the piglet trade, which therefore remains low in revs.

Despite the rapid increase in pig prices, piglet prices in our country did not come close to €50. Piglet prices could not keep up with the rate of increase on the pig market. This is a signal that there is not much confidence in persistently higher pig prices. This is the case throughout Europe.
Export figures
This is also evident from the export figures of Dutch piglets. This has fluctuated around 100.000 in recent weeks. Sales to Germany in particular have suffered a significant decline. In week 37, 50.000 piglets crossed the German border, compared to almost 80.000 in the same week two years ago. Spanish demand also leaves much to be desired, according to traders, and this is also reflected in the export figures. A starting point is that the Spanish piglet price is on the rise again, a signal that the supply in our own country is drying up somewhat.

The Dutch piglet market could use some boost. Supply and demand are at odds, according to traders there is a small piglet surplus. Fattening pig farmers at home and abroad remain reluctant to impose flocks due to the cloudy prospects. German piglet prices have also leveled off for a few weeks at €56 per piglet. In the Netherlands, the DCA BestPigletPrice is also moving sideways, after almost comparable clear statements from the trade. The quotation therefore remains at €46,50 per piglet. A reduction is not in the cards, but it is more likely than an increase.
