Stock market price is again pushing for a higher pig price

18 November 2022 - Wouter Baan

The chances of an increase in the pig price are increasing day by day. Meanwhile, traders and pig farmers are sometimes eating themselves up, because they believe that slaughterhouses should have increased a long time ago. Nevertheless, the trade is again calling for an increase, which will take the DCA stock price up again.

Slaughterhouses ignored the narrow increase in the DCA Exchange Price 2.0 for week 46 this week. The quotations remained in place unanimously. The German pork price (VEZG) also remained the same again. The only party that did take action was Vion Germany. They quietly stopped the Hauspreis and again charge a price of €1,90 per kilo.

The sector's hopes for a Christmas revival have not yet faded, despite a false start. Traders say they can easily lose the pigs. This is confirmed by the persistently high slaughter figures. Slaughtering takes place at a rapid pace in the Netherlands. Last week, 322.933 pigs were on the hook. These are high numbers, although the slaughter figure was even higher the week before. The high numbers are due to the Saturday slaughter.

Meat market is picking up
More and more signals are coming from the meat market that Christmas demand is increasing. Eastern European countries in particular are 'on the market' in Western Europe, which may be related to the structurally lower slaughter figures in Germany. Exports to China also continue to show improvements, despite the stronger euro and fierce competition from the United States and Brazil. The increasing demand is probably partly due to a peak in demand for the Chinese New Year, which takes place on January 22.

The supply of sows for slaughter is low, which resulted in a significant price increase this week. The chance that pig prices will also gain momentum seems to be increasing. The increase in the Internet stock exchange confirms this. It is true that slaughterhouses have been quite rigid in their pricing in recent weeks. Yet traders at DCA Markets are again calling for an increase. Based on the statements, the DCA Exchange Price increases by €0,03 to €1,83 per kilo for the slaughtered pigs. The price of live pigs increases by €0,02 to €1,44.
